Stonesfield Reverse Advent Calendar

We’re so very sorry to mention Christmas before Bonfire Night! We seem to start earlier each year, but trust us, it is necessary. We are very aware how difficult things still are this year, with interest rates still high, increases in fuel costs and cuts to fuel allowances affecting many, including households in Stonesfield.

So, the pub committee are running the ‘Reverse Advent Calendar’ initiative again, along with our wider community, to help.

It has been very well received over the last four years and has been simply brilliant to be able to be very generous on your behalf so that no one went without. Any one of us might need support from our village at some point, so we’re hoping to encourage as many of you as possible to be community champions again this year.

It’s easy to get involved: simply wrap an empty box - ideally in festive paper - leaving the top open. Then use the advent calendar as a shopping list, adding to the box as you go.

It’s okay to freestyle (they say variety is the spice of life!). Everything helps and is always gratefully received, but please don’t include foods and drinks containing nuts or alcohol, and remember food may have to be served cold.

If, as in previous years, we are overwhelmed by your generosity, we may pass any excess parcels to Stonefield Mutual Aid for distribution in January, so long shelf dates on everything would be ideal.

Those eagle-eyed amongst you will spot that the calendar starts in November. The parcels distributed via the school and pre-school need to be handed over well before the end of term, so the earlier you can start the better.

Next BIG ask – please could you deliver your completed parcel to The White Horse (7 December onwards), as Craig has very kindly said he will make space to collect them.

We’d love to know if you’re taking part so we have a feel for how many parcels may be heading our way, so do drop us a line to susan@backthewhitehorse.com. Likewise, if you are unable to deliver the parcel, please let us know and we’ll endeavour to make arrangements for its collection.
